Thank You for Downloading "2012 Concept Calendar: HexaKomb". Here are a few things to keep in mind when viewing the source document.

1. The font I used for this calendar is not likely installed on your machine. If the user opens the document right away, it'll probably revert to "Arial", "Times New Roman" or some other default windows font.

1a. The font that came in the .zip file needs to be installed in your Fonts folder. In Vista/7 just right click "DooM.ttf"->Click "Install".

2. You'll need either Word 2007 or 2010 to modify this document (.docx). Earlier versions of word will store all WordArt objects as picture files (and thus, losing the ability to modify WordArt text).

3. To change the background of WordArt, right-click a WordArt object, click "Format WordArt".

3a. Under "Colors and Lines", click the "Fill Effects" button. Click the "Picture" tab, and click the "Select Picture" button. An Open dialog appears. The rest is self-explanitory.

4. To apply picture effects to an picture object (not WordArt), click on "Format" under the Pink-colored "Picture Tools" tab. Apply effects as desired.

5. If a user wishes to recolor or apply additional effects, feel free to open up an external image editor (i.e. Photoshop) and apply the desired effects.

6. IMPORTANT: Do NOT print directly from Word. Word has issues with printing all transparent objects as opaque (At least with 2007 & earlier versions). Instead, printscreen and paste to an image editor, crop as necessary and print from the image editor (i.e. Photoshop).

7. You can reuse this document for other months of the year as well. Just click on the "January 2012" text and edit the WordArt text as you see fit.

8. Same applies to the holiday text. I'll leave space for four holidays. Resize the boxes and text as necessary if you want to fit more holidays per month.

9. The holidays use a red honeycomb with a yellow outline. To create more holiday-honeycombs, click on the red hexagon and press "Ctrl+D" to duplicate the object. Same applies to any other image object.

9a. To place the holiday honeycomb into the proper day of the week, click on the black honeycomb you want to get rid of and delete it. Drag the duplicated red honeycomb to it's designated spot.

10. Resizing WordArt & image objects is a breeze. Click on the desired object, and put the mouse pointer to the desired node. Then hold down the left-mouse key and move the cursor to resize the object.

11. By default, the Object Wrapping for all objects in my document is "In Front of Text", so the entire document can be used as a canvas, just like in Photoshop, GIMP, or other image editor. To change the Object Wrapping, click on the object and under "Picture Tools", then find "Wrap Text", and choose the desired object wrapping.

12. Since Word 2007/2010 treats all WordArt, ClipArt & Shapes as vector objects, every individual image is layered differently. Even raster-image objects are vectorized when on the Word canvas. To arrange the order of an object, Right-click the desired object and highlight to "Order"->and choose from six different arrangement options. Do as many times as you find necessary.

Have a Happy 2012 Everybody!
